going out west...

this is the first internet access i've had this trip so far.
6/26 thursday night we spent in Dallas in a weird motel.
6/27 drove to lake brantley state park friday to camp. Nothing but desert and jackrabbits as far as the eye could see. Camped. Woke up to a big black tarantula. expect photos.
6/28 drove to Carlsbad and walked to cave trails. Ate lunch 750 feet below the surface.
drove to Roswell and went to the international UFO center and research station.
made it as far as Magdalena Mountains to camp again.
heard the coyotes...
saw many tumbleweeds
drove through a dust storm that was like being in an episode of Carnivale

the scenery out here is so beautiful it looks fake.

I got to drive through crazy precarious winding mountain roads for a long time today.

Arrived in Chandler Arizona today at 3pm. Met Rob who gave us a tour of the area. Ate dinner at Pita Jungle with Monkey, went to "the lake" and out for drinks with Rob and Monkey. Now back at Rob's place enjoying AC, wine, good dogs and good company.

I will now attempt to upload some photos to Cam's computer...

miss y'all!

new-ish plans

Too ambitious with the June 23 date. Went to Tom Waits show in Dallas, but had to come back to Shreveport to finish up some things. Leaving tomorrow morning. Heading for Austin first. Very tired... long, long days. Just packing tonight with a glass of wine while waiting for the peach-apple-coconut rum crisp to come out of the oven. One load of laundry to go. In the morning we hand over the apartment keys and are officially homeless and living out of the car until mid July.

skeletal itinerary

June 23 - Dallas - Tom Waits concert <3
- REI for last camp gear
Head for Roswell... look for aliens...
Head for Grand Canyon... be in awe of nature
Head North. Hit Boise, Portland, Eugene... maybe more
Head East. Hit Michigan.
Head South. Hit Kentucky.
Then back to Shreveport by July 15th?

There will be much camping.
I have a few good books, a good camera, some beads and hemp to weave, a brand new moleskine to fill. I'm going to learn how to knit. I'm going to roast veggie dogs over an open fire. I've got a great travel partner (we'll probably not kill each other by the end of this trip.)

Cameron and I will find out new home on this trip.
Somewhere with Roller Derby and a good bike culture. Scooter friendly... artisan friendly. less humidity... trees that change color in the fall... maybe even snow at Christmas. good camping, hiking, health food stores...

I'll post as often as I can from the road.
I won't have a ton of internet access though.

Yarr!
